Does roof rejuvenation actually work?

In independent testing by PRI Asphalt Technologies, treated shingles showed 53% better granule retention and 66.7% improved cold-weather flexibility compared with untreated shingles after 1,500 hours of accelerated weathering, about five years of simulated aging. Those are lab results on test samples. Your roof's results depend on its condition, which is why we inspect first.

Roof Rejuvenate lab testing results: 1,500 hours of accelerated weathering; 53% better granule retention and 66.7% improved cold-weather flexibility versus untreated shingles; product still present in the shingle after 5 years. PRI Asphalt Technologies, March 2025.

What is Roof Rejuvenate?

A natural, corn-based oil that soaks into aging asphalt shingles and puts back the oils the sun bakes out. It isn't a paint, coating or sealant. It works inside the shingle, so there's no film to peel, flake or trap moisture.

Will my roof qualify?

Every roof must qualify. Roofs about 5 to 15 years old are usually the best candidates, 16 to 20 years depends on condition, and most roofs over 20 need replacing. Curled or rolled-up shingles, sagging or rot, and hail or wind damage rule a roof out. We walk every roof first, and if yours should be replaced, we'll tell you and we won't sell you a treatment.

How much does it cost?

A fraction of the cost of a roof replacement, about 15–20%. Every roof is different, so we measure it and give you a firm number in writing. The roof assessment is free.

Will it fix a leak?

No. It isn't a leak repair or a waterproofing product, and it doesn't repair structural damage. If your roof needs repairs or replacing, we'll tell you straight.

How long does the job take?

Usually a day. There's no tear-off, no dumpster and no noise. The tune-up is part of the process: we seal around pipes and vents, reset nail pops and replace loose fasteners. Any bigger repairs are listed and priced separately.

Is there a warranty?

A five-year transferable product warranty is available, subject to the current written terms, roof qualification, approved preparation and application, documentation, and registration.

What's in it, and who makes it?

A corn-oil formula: 95% USDA Certified Biobased, with no PFAS and no soy methyl ester. Made in the USA. Roof Rejuvenate's formula was engineered by Colorbiotics, a Sika company.

Who does the work?

House on the Hill Construction, a licensed local general contractor since 2014 (CSLB #1006728) and an authorized Roof Rejuvenate dealer. Every roof is inspected on foot before we recommend anything.
